Rock paintings
Row by boat to see historical rock paintings! (the highlight of every Teen’s cabin holiday)
Google: Konnivesi rock paintings (Matti Hakulinen’s page has a good article on the subject with good pictures to make it easier to find the paintings). At winter nro 1 and 2 are seen by ice so you can walk from the cottage to see them.
Rautakannanvuori (map no. 1.), the two pictures on the left side of the earth terrace with a small birch tree growing in the right corner of the cliff. At the top is a painting recognizable as an animal, and below it is a small boat, which is 3.5 meters above the water level. It is at the northern end of the cliff on a small inward sloping boulder. The painting is thought to date back to approx. 4200-3300 BCE.. This is very close to the Hiidenhirvi cottage and the closest painting from all the cottages by rowingboat. The distance from the other cottages is about 2 km.
The Konnivesi Haukkavuori rock painting (map no. 2.) shows the image of a single moose. The galloping moose of Konnivesi’s Haukkavuori is beautiful and skillfully made. The small, expressive stuffed elk is depicted from the front. Special attention is paid to the ears and their position. The age of realistic painting has been estimated to be up to 7000 years. Five to six meters above the current water level. Google: Konnivesi Haukkavuori rock painting by Matti Hakulinen so you will know what kind of picture you are about to find.
Karhusaari. (on the map no. 3.) The rock is worn and corroded, but three headless deer stand out from it. They are about 2.5 meters above the surface of the water, but at chest height when standing on the beach terrace. This painting is located on the Kelloniemi side, so the journey by water from the cottages is a good 5 km.
